Selby Community Bike Project

Selby Community Bike Project

The Selby Community Bike Project was set up in May 2025 following a consultation with the local community about the resources people need to support everyday life. It is a partnership project between Up for Yorkshire, Cogs Cycles and Community Furniture Stores.

The idea is simple: we collect pre-loved bikes from the community, have them repaired locally by Cogs Cycles in Selby, and then give them free of charge to people who have been referred to us by trusted partner organisations.

Every bike is fully refurbished and distributed with a helmet, lights and a lock to ensure people can travel safely and confidently.

The project reduces waste and supports the local circular economy by giving bikes a second life. More importantly, it helps people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford one. Having access to a bike can improve physical and mental health, help people stay connected in their community, and open up opportunities such as getting to work, education, or training.

Donate a Bike

If you have a bike you no longer use, please consider donating it to the project. You can drop bikes off at any of our three stores in York, Scarborough or Selby. We can also arrange collections — simply give us a call to organise a suitable time.

If a donated bike is particularly high value, we may sell it in one of our shops to generate funds that help cover the cost of repairs and keep the project running. Any money raised from bike sales goes directly back into supporting the Community Bike Project.

Become a Referrer

If you work for an organisation that supports people in Selby, you can become a referral partner. This allows you to refer individuals who would benefit from receiving a bike through the project.
